Artistic interpretations of Yellow Stone’s geysers, Zion’s canyons, monarch butterflies and magic mushrooms have exploded onto the rack in big-name stores while climate disaster worsens and 58 percent of Americans believe policymakers aren’t doing enough.

Parks Project is the nonprofit arm of the National Parks Service (NPS), sustainably creating and producing fashion to preserve underfunded national parks. The project was joined by big-name outdoor brands such as REI, Pendleton and L.L. Bean to increase NPS profit.

Outside of the Parks Project, corporations such as Target are increasing consumer attention toward environmental aesthetics by launching mycology-themed and “Save the Earth” clothing lines.

John Paul Mejia, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences and national spokesperson for Sunrise Movement, said this trend demonstrates a degree of environmental awareness and an aesthetic appreciation that is intrinsic to humanity.

“Those of us at the bottom of the economic ladder or have neighborhoods that are slashed by the inequalities of race and class have differing accessibility to nature,” Mejia said. “I think that fashion and a yearn for nature speaks to some of that inaccessibility.”

The biodiversity within nature has inspired fashion for centuries: from European textiles to Islamic geometric patterns and Indigenous American tapestries, each conveys earthly reverence. Trending vintage illustrations of nature harken to a hopeful time without the looming presence of climate change.

“Being able to imagine and articulate a future that is good is something that’s sometimes hard to do,” Mejia said. “That requires a lot of labor, a lot of hope and the absence of cynicism. Those things are hard to do when all you see is bad days all around.”

Trendsetting and statement pieces come with caveats. In the process of bringing designer looks to the public, fast fashion companies break labor rights and cause extreme environmental degradation.

Meanwhile, sustainable fashion negates environmental impact but is often too expensive for the average consumer. The average cost for a Parks Project t-shirt or tank top is $31.97, and REI charges an average of $42.00 for a Parks Project item.

Michael Taffe, a junior in CAS, saw an Instagram advertisement for the Parks Project in 2020 and has been wearing their gear since. He said he loves the retro design and feels the purpose is worth the price.

“It makes me feel a little bit better about it because I know it’s going to a good cause,” Taffe said.

Alongside preserving parklands, Taffe believes businesses using parkland imagery should acknowledge the lives and homes stolen to build national parks.

“I think the Indigenous story needs to be told,” Taffe said. “Reparations should be part of these brands if they truly want to be equitable.”

Few Americans are aware of the national parks’ brutal history. To mold American landscapes into untouched wilderness, the Federal Government authorized the displacement of its Indigenous inhabitants. Without cruelty, illustrations of the undiscovered wild would not be present for marketing.

In September 2022, NPS partnered with American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes, Alaska Natives entities and the Native Hawaiian Community for future national parkland management.

Molly Stites, president of Wonk Trade, a student-run trading and exchange post at AU, and a third year in the School of Communication, said too many Americans romanticize national parks as the paradigm of sustainability.

“I love national parks, but there are many other levels of sustainability and environmental justice that people should be focusing on,” Stites said. “It’s really important to dig deeper into that and open your eyes up to thrifting.”

Scrolling through Parks Project apparel and searching the racks of REI, the wandering eye is drawn to retro screen presses of parklands and scientific sketches of the natural world. New and recycled interpretations of the Earth stand in sharp contrast to the everyday images of climate disaster.

While these illustrations provide nostalgia for a time without the eclipsing presence of climate change, recognizing the origins of the land motivates climate action.

“This nostalgia,” Mejia said, “Whether it is aesthetic or political, helps us imagine different moments in which social movements and artists and other folks who have employed their political and artistic agency have reshaped the country.”Read more at:silver prom dresses | white prom dress uk

When it comes to merging high fashion with racing, Ferrari continues to champion a lifestyle beyond the track with the unveiling of its third collection. This Spring/Summer 2023 saw the titular racing brand present its show at a relatively intimate venue of the Teatro Lirico during Milan Fashion Week.

Ferrari’s creative director Rocco Iannone has set the tone for a new aesthetic after spending two seasons meticulously looking under the hood of Ferrari’s engineering and style codes. This time around, Iannone is focusing on the true Ferrari dream and the lifestyle that surrounds it. While there is always a focus on details, materials, and products inspired by the brand’s 75-year heritage, Iannone places a contemporary lens on the collection to signal the start of a new season.

While a modern vision has taken to the circuit, the collection also features essential race motifs including a workwear-inspired men’s look in olive green. Jumpsuits, which are often known to be the official uniform of F1 race car drivers, have made a chic comeback in a selection of vibrant colors and leather material, perhaps a nod to the craftsmanship of the Italian brand. As a nod to the racer look, official Ferrari and sponsor badges give the jumpsuit and technical shirts the authentic look.

Menswear focuses on oversized suiting, where trousers and blazers feature relaxed tailoring and are paired with either the aforementioned jumpsuits or tie-dye patterned shirts. Cargo-like pants and box-cut collared jackets are elevated by the vibrant repeating patterns, as well as a fresh new color tone that pairs well with the typical feminine and masculine motifs. High-quality Italian craftsmanship continues to be at the forefront of the pieces as Ferrari launches its third-ever collection.Read more at: white prom dress | purple prom dresses

One of Pittsburgh’s longest-running fashion events returns as an in-person program this weekend.

Style Week Pittsburgh, launched in 2013 by entrepreneur Wadria Taylor, was knocked out of commission by the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. This year, it’s back in its familiar form, with three days of events, including the opening-night Kulture Fashion Show at Studio Atelier in East Liberty.

The runway show features work from formal attire to streetwear by six local designers, including Melissa Charles, Eva Dixon, Celeta Hickman, Charlotte Ka, Lana Neumeyer, and Nathon Brooks’ Rebel Bred Clothing. There are also fashion and beauty-products vendors, a vogue performance and a dance party.

The evening includes a runway-walk competition open to all attendees. “People can hit the runway and give their best walk,” said Taylor.

Audience participation aside, the runway show is a valuable opportunity for designers.

“This is my first major fashion show, so I’m going to go all out,” said Melissa Charles of the North Side, who works under the name Melissasade Designs. “It’s good for me because of the experience. I feel like as a designer, especially in the fashion industry, you should be in all aspects of the fashion industry.”

Charles said she would bring 12 models to the runway show, outfitting them in original cocktail dresses and evening gowns.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, the Style Awards ceremony will recognize local businesses and professionals in the field. Style Week concludes with Sunday’s Business of Fashion Brunch. Presenters include keynote speaker Lesley Ware, an author and designer based in New York City; motivational speaker Shellie Hipsky; and Roderick Ramsey of Pittsburgh’s Bridgeway Capital.

Both the Style Awards and the brunch will be held at Downtown co-working space Emerald City.

The inspiration behind Emma Walton’s jewellery? Puddings. “My camera roll has so many pictures of desserts,” she says with a laugh. The day after indulging in a sweet treat, she’ll go in search of gems that remind her of what she’s eaten. (Her favourite dessert is gelato, by the way.)

Hatton Garden is her failsafe destination for all things jewellery-related: she regularly visits in search of gemstones, polishing services, emergency repairs – you name it. Her mother, who was a jeweller by trade for more than two decades, sourced her own materials there and taught Emma her craft when she was young.

Unsure of “what to do with her life”, Emma studied textiles at Chelsea College of Art & Design. Throughout university, she had a bench in Hatton Garden, where she was mentored by her friend Matt Foster – whom she met on a night out – and made her first jewellery pieces. “I was just experimenting and having fun,” she remembers. “I don’t have any traditional training whatsoever; I just learn as I go along.”

Emma has since graduated and relocated to Southbank, where she works on her eponymous jewellery business full-time, still on a bench alongside Matt. Rings are her signature, but she makes custom necklaces and earrings on occasion. Every ring starts out as a wax cast, which she sculpts in the studio. “Sometimes, it takes an entire day to do one cast,” she notes. The finished products are weighty – often 25 grams or so. Pieces in the lower price bracket are made from silver, but she offers rings in gold plate and solid gold, too.

n true Gen-Z fashion, 25-year-old Emma has built her client base on Instagram – her account has 27.9k followers and counting – and TikTok. She prefers email requests and orders through her website, but customers will often get in touch via DM on both platforms. Dua Lipa is one such client. The singer saw Emma’s rings on Instagram and requested three gold customs, with the pair exchanging messages back and forth about gems.

As a fledgling business, Emma orchestrates hype with “one-of-one” pieces that she shares with her followers. “I love testing them and seeing what happens,” she says. Bestsellers include her trademark chunky two-stone rings, “drippy” hearts and “twiglet” rings scattered with multicoloured stones. A tip she learnt from Dua? “Opals are bad energy.” Noted.Read more at: lilac prom dress | silver prom dresses

A French Quarter dress shop has admitted that most of the labels they stock are ethically made, some are more ethically made than others.

Our reporter spent the day walking in and out of the various shopping boutiques of our town’s beating bohemian heart.

One label that Deidre Bowmore, owner of Cochon Occidental Décadent on Rue de Blanc, has been stocking for years is one of those labels that isn’t made as ethically as other more established ones.

“We have dresses that are designed and made in Australia,” said Deidre.

“They are quite expensive, however. We have dresses to suit every budget. At the more modest end, we have labels like Meadow Dust. They do lovely dresses,”

“Meadow Dust was born in Melbourne. It’s the brainchild of Morgan and Michelle Morgan, two South Yarra locals who’ve made the move to Fitzroy, where they both gave birth to Meadow Dust.”

Deidre handed our reporter a homely dress with back pockets and a double cut-out.

“See how soft it is?”

Our reporter noticed that the label had “Born in Melbourne” in large font under the size. On the other side of the label, it said “Made in Bangladesh by special workers with tiny hands for the closest stitch and highest quality” from “an artisanal blend of polyester, elastane and viscose”.

Deidre continued.

“This is from our iron-free and low-maintenance range,” she said.

“So you don’t need to dry clean it. You don’t need to iron it. Well, you can but I personally wouldn’t. This dress also has to be kept well away from naked flames. It will catch on fire pretty easily and melt to your skin, which is not good,”

“Don’t worry, it comes with a big warning label on the helm line.”Read more at:emerald green prom dresses uk | white prom dress uk

Read more at:red mermaid prom dress | blue prom dresses uk

Read more at: cheap prom dresses | prom dresses online

Read more at:prom dresses 2022 | plus size prom dresses
